In 3rd year, I made a massive, 360 degree Frenzy condoms campaign…for class.
At the center of the campaign were these three commercials showing that safe sex was so important, that you could not and should not do it unless you’re prepared. Even if you’re a dinosaur and the asteroid that’s about to wipe out your species is on its merry down.
Mercifully, I wasn’t supposed to shoot the commercials, but I did have to get as far as the storyboards you see above this text.
A year ago, I came up with an AU where Aang and the rest of Team Avatar were a punk rock band (named BoomerAang) with Zuko as their manager.
Aang would be on lead vocals/rhythm guitar, Katara would be on lead guitar, backing vocals, and keyboards, Sokka would be on bass, and Toph would be on drums. They would all still have their bending powers and Sokka’s guitar would’ve looked like his boomerang. Zuko would always be trying to get BoomerAang gigs and make them big in order to restore his honor in the eyes of his father, music mogul Ozai; head of Phoenix King records.
Had I written it, the story would’ve been a dark tale of redemption and learning to accept the responsibility thrust upon you (because Aang would’ve been a diva to the rest of the band at the start and he’d always be late to gigs).
This idea popped back into my head while I was at work today and now I can’t stop thinking about it so I will definitely be posting more sketches for it.
Here is a hero without a trace of cynicism. In a climate of dark heroes Wan is bright, intelligent, and complex, He’s a hero whose actions feel genuinely noble and heroic. He makes mistakes, but he tries to make up for them. He constantly does things in the name of helping everyone around him and when the world nearly ended, he put himself last and spent the rest of his life dedicated to helping the four nations get along.
Here’s to more adventures (and definitely more fan art) with the first Avatar.
